What will the process be like for me?

1. Clinic visit – First time

When you need a compression garment for the first time, which could be for a range of conditions such as varicose veins, tired and aching legs, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), leg ulcers, lymphoedema and pregnancy, you will need to see a doctor/nurse to confirm that it is safe for you to wear compression and that it is the right treatment for you. Once they have prescribed compression hosiery, you will be measured and receive a prescription.

For the next few appointments your doctor/nurse may revise the level of compression that you need and the length of the garment. If your condition has stabilised, you may not need to be seen for a while and just given a repeat prescription. This is a white form attached to your green prescription form, usually sent to you approximately every 6 months, that enables you to order a new compression garment.

If you have lost your repeat prescription form, you can contact your GP practice to request a new one. Your repeat prescription is valid for 6–12 months, after which time you will need to see a doctor/nurse to check your compression is still right for you, as there may have been changes in your limb condition or general health.

A simple, quick and easy way to receive your compression garments is to nominate Daylong Direct as your preferred dispensary. Sign up and nominate Daylong Direct for your compression garments to be sent direct to your door by Royal Mail Tracked 48® for free.
